Prairie Dream Paper Birch
Betula papyrifer 'Varen'
Appearance: This singular or multi-trunked tree grows with an oval habit. As a paper birch it has showy snow-white peeling bark that adds interest through the winter. The dark green deciduous foliage on the tree turns a golden-yellow in autumn. Due to its height and habit, it is unsuitable to plant under powerlines.
Care and Maintenance: This widely adaptable tree prefers medium to wet, well-draining soils. As such a tolerant tree it only requires occasional maintenance. Pruning should be done in the summer to prevent it from bleeding sap in the winter months. Generally deer will leave this species as they prefer other trees.
