Hot Wings Maple
Acer tatarian 'GarAnn'
Appearance: Slow to medium growing maple with dark green foliage and brilliant red samaras in the summer. The lobed leaves turn yellow and sometimes orange and red in fall. Primarily grown for its showy cherry red samaras in late summer. It has a low canopy with a typical clearance of 4 feet from the ground, and is suitable for planting under power lines.
Care and Maintenance: The tree is highly adaptable and tolerant of varying conditions such as alkaline soils, drought, moist or dry soils, urban pollution and inner city environments. This species is also fairly disease resistant. It prefers to be planted in full sun to partial shade. Pruning is recommended in the summer, when in full leaf, as it tends to bleed if pruned in late winter. This should be done to maintain its shape, health and circulation around its base.
